NOVELTIES

It's been a long time since my last post, but you will see why.

There's quite an interesting pack of new activities:

1. Have a look at this revision site I've prepared with grammar, video, reading and audio for 5th. year students.

2. Here you can see mash-ups for 4th. year and for 5th. year. You are asked to write a composition on some topics and, at once, you are given a pack of photos, links to videos and wikipedia info, so that you can get inspired.

3. Don't miss a quite comprehensive collection of activities on the new chill-out section called LUNA PARK.

4. Another new section in Chill-out is the SING-ALONG. It's a collection of links to both musical videos and lyrics.

5. Finally, here is a try a building mind-maps on the web describing the four linguistic skills.

That's all folks!

Hope you like it.

Wherever you travel round Europe, you won't find a friendlier city than Amsterdam.

2

I must admit having fallen in love with its people and its canals.

Ya sé que hay de todo. Sin embargo, nada puede compararse con esa gente.

CRIS'S COMPOSITION EXERCISE - TOPIC: SEXIST ADVERTISING

ALUMNO: CRIS

I totally agree with that accusation. Car adverts are a clear example of how old habits die hard. Cars are for men, lifting cream are for women.

As an example of what I mean is that I have never ever seen an advert where a woman gives a man a lift on a Ferrari. It is always the other way round. Women are like flower pots on cars are on lots of other places.

It's going to take a long time before we can change that image. At least, as long as the change of sex of those people in command of the advert agencies.

I agree with Claire about the slow change and increased subtlety. But we are still victims of previous stereotypes.

CLAIRE'S COMPOSITION EXERCISE - TOPIC: SEXIST ADVERTISING

ALUMNO: CLAIRE

Well I think car adverts used to be much more sexist than they are now, really. But that, again, goes for the rest of the advertisement industry.

I can still recall xara citroen cars with a Claudia Schiffer as an added gift or washing powder hen's parties.

Things have change a lot or, perhaps, sexism is more subtle because they still play on people's basic instints and social primitive roles. However, everything may depend on the culture of the original car-maker. For instance, German cars such as Opel or BMW are normally driven by men, whereas Italian cars doesn't make such clear distinction.

Nowadays, sexism is not politically correct. Therefore, the car industry try to change its old strategies.

TEACHER'S COMPOSITION EXERCISE - TOPIC: SEXIST ADVERTISING

The car industry is often accused of  making sexist adverts. Think of two examples of car advertisements. Are they sexist? If not, give examples that are. What do you think of sexist advertising?
How do you feel about it?
What do you think of your partners' opinions?
Composition between 50 and 100 words.

NEW SITE FOR THE WEBPAGE!

Never Mind! All's well that ends well.

Saludos.
